Abiding in the Vine

Abiding in the  Vine  —  6-22-13

Abiding in the vine is Bible talk for staying always connected to the Lord  no matter what is going on around us. This is a difficult thing to do, but  once you get the hang of it, it gets easier. We need to do this abiding not  only in a crisis, but even in the best days. That way we are never caught  off guard by a tragedy. We have ourselves prepared for most every curve  ball life might throw at us because we are abiding. When we feel a lot of  disappointment time and again, we have been unprepared  (not abiding) or have unrealistic expectations.

We won’t be disappointed or disillusioned if we stay away from  illusions. An illusion is something that appears to be something they are  not. It is the mental state of being intellectually deceived or  misled. This can lead to an awful state of regret and depression. There are  times when we have deceived and misled ourselves without any outside  help. We must make sure we are lovers of truth and are equipped to handle  the truth.

Notice all the “D” words. Not good!  Stay away from these  Dees

Life is filled with disappointments. Big ones and little ones. The way  to avoid all those Dees, is to stay with the Vine. ‘Abiding’ is the same as  living or dwelling. It is a place where we all should be living.  Suppose the worst news there is (you think at the time) is spoken to you or  written to you. If you are abiding in The Vine there may be some sorrowing,  but you will already have victory over the bad news because  you have the divine connection that keeps us right side up when our world  just went upside down. We abide in the Good News of Jesus!

Another way to look at this abiding thing is to compare it with the  space walking astronauts. They survived in space by being tethered to  their space craft. The tether provided everything they needed. As Christian  Believers, we make it through everything on Earth because we are tethered  to God. He has everything we need to survive.

On this subject, I recommended Secrets of the Vine by Bruce  Wilkinson. An Awesomely power packed little book. I read my copy again and  again, about once a year.

I am the vine and you are the  branches. According to God’s divine power He has given us  everything we need for life and Godliness through the knowledge of Jesus,  the one who called us to glory and virtue.  John 15:5, 2 Peter  1:3
