The Rest of the Story   —  5-4-13
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me;  because the Lord God has anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He  has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives,  and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable  year of the Lord.  Isaiah 61:1-2a.
There is a very  important account of something Jesus did in Luke chapter 4. Jesus has  been baptized by John. Word of that event and what was said at that  time is causing much excitement as the news travels fast. When He  arrives in Nazareth, He goes into the synagogue on the Sabbath day. Here He  is in the “church” where He grew up. The leaders brought Him the Isaiah scroll  to read. He chose to read the quote above, then, rolled up the scroll and  sat down. All eyes were on Him. You could hear a pin drop. They must have all  been wondering why He chose this particular verse, known to everyone to be a  Messianic reference. Then, He said, This day this  Scripture is fulfilled in your ears.  He was telling them that HE  is the Messiah. This is super radical. They know what He is saying, but don’t  know what to think. As the story goes on, they decide He is just the  carpenter’s son and a blasphemer. They attempt to throw Him from the  cliff. He foils their plan and goes on His way to Capernaum where  He establishes his ministry headquarters.
When I read this passage in Isaiah for the first time several years ago, I  realized that Jesus only read the first part of this  passage. This was no accident. It was by design. He stopped  reading in the middle of a sentence. The part above sums up what Jesus came  to preach and do, the FIRST time. The problem came when the people were  expecting the whole promise to happen at one time. Some on them never  figured it out, that there would be a Second Coming. They wanted to see God’s  hammer on the Romans now.
As I have read the second part (see below), I understand the reason  for Him stopping where He did. There is a pause between the fulfillment  of the two parts. This pause would be the “Time of the  Gentiles.”  Jesus made reference to this time when Jerusalem would no  longer be trodden down by the Gentiles (under the control of foreign invaders).  This process began in 1948 when the British withdrew their presence from  “Palestine” and turned control over to Jewish government that would found the  new nation of Israel. Under the terms of the British, Jerusalem was divided  with the Arab Muslims left in control of the Old City and the Temple Mount.  No Jews were allowed in that part of the city. Later in the Six Day War of  1967, Israeli troops took the Old City. The Western Wall of the Temple was  opened to Jewish worshippers for the first time in over 2,000 years. I watched  on TV when Moishe Dyan (Commander of the Israeli Army) was at Western Wall,  weeping, touching the Wall, thanking God. He was surrounded by other  soldiers cheering and crying openly. At last, the prophecy of Jesus had come to  pass. It signaled the beginning of The Last Days.
It is now the task of Believers to tell others what TIME it is:  all who do not know Jesus, particularly the Jewish people over the whole  earth. There are some of us who have ministries to ‘comfort Zion’ helping  Russian Jews immigrate to Israel, sending relief money to help with new  immigrants, many of them destitute. But at the same time we must tell them that  their Messiah has come:  He is Yeshua. They need to know that we sort  of hijacked their King. One day we may be called upon to hide these people,  as happened in Europe not too many years ago. Would you be willing to hide  Jews, on pain of death if discovered?
We also must warn The Church to open their eyes and see  the terrible luke warm condition and the proliferation of itching  ears doctrines that skew the Word of God. There is  lawlessness among us at a time in which every educational tool ever  known is at our disposal. Yet, the majority of those who claim  Christianity are Biblically illiterate. The rest of us who are praying for  our own eyes to be open are God’s Impossible Mission Force. To help  Jewish people when and where we can, and to do our best to convince  other Christians to get right or get ‘left.’
As we look at the part Jesus didn’t read, (below), notice it starts with  the day of vengeance of our God.  This time, it’s not a year, it’s a  DAY. Scholars know this is referring to The Great Day, which will be the End of  Time on Earth. After that, the righteous will be in the heavens for the  rest of this promise. We are living in the last days of The Last Days.  Read below and see what you think. I’d appreciate your  thoughts:
[The Spirit of the Lord has anointed me to  proclaim] the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that  mourn; to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes,  the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;  that they may be trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might  be glorified.  Isaiah 61:2b-3
